The first inhabitants of the village were shepherds and the reasons why they settled here were many, firstly he area was a vast pasture due to the forest and the rocky uncultivated ground, secondly the village is not seen from the sea because of "Pampoula" that rises to the south and thus saves pirates, often ravage the coast villages and last but not least the amount of water they cold find in the old wells.
