Holiday home abroad: Paphos and Corfu amongst the top 10 of the world

For those who want to buy a holiday home in a foreign country, #Paphos and #Corfu is in the top 10 of the best seaside destinations, next to popular tourist hotspots, such as Venice and Dubai. Paphos holds the second place and Corfu is 6th on the list.

As the Australian price comparison site Compare the Market points out, the opening of borders and tourism makes many people think of buying their own holiday home in a sunny destination.

The company analyzed 50 different destinations from around the world and ranked them based on prices, weather and how many things a visitor can do there.

By these criteria, Venice was considered to be the best place in the world to buy a holiday home. Built on a lagoon with over 100 small islands, without roads and canals on which gondolas sail, Venice is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

The main reason it won the first place is because it offers many things to do but also many restaurants and cafes in a relatively small area.

"While Venice is a great place to visit, you may want a holiday home in a place with less tourists, where you can really become one with the locals," the study authors acknowledge. That is why they have singled out Paphos in Cyprus as the second choice.

The city, which is located on the southwest coast of Cyprus, offers a Mediterranean climate with an average temperature of 19.2 degrees Celsius, but is also one of the most economical options, with the average price of a house at 2,388 euros per square meter.

Dubai is in third place, which offers high temperatures (27.6 degrees Celsius on average), low rainfall and very low crime.

In sixth place on the list is Corfu, with a large number of restaurants (1,322 per 10,000 inhabitants), an average temperature of 17.2 degrees Celsius and an average purchase price of 1,387 euros per square meter.

Among the 50 destinations examined, Heraklion, Crete was in 16th place, with an average house price of 1,509 euros per square meter and a monthly cost of living for a family of 4 at 2,226 euros.

Athens is in 31st place, with an average house price of 1,753 euros per square meter and a monthly cost of living for a family of 2,174 euros.
