On Thursday, June 4, German Chancellor Angela Merkel held telephone conversations with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, during which the Chancellor congratulated the President of the Republic on the positive results achieved by the country in the fight against the pandemic, and stated that Cyprus is among the countries considered the safest travels of German citizens.
According to a written statement by Panayiotis Sentonas, Deputy Government Spokesman, President Anastasiades and Chancellor Merkel discussed Turkey’s illegal activities in the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the region as a whole.
The two leaders also discussed current events related to the coronavirus pandemic, and exchanged views on EU multi-year financial schemes, as well as on the Recovery Fund, which is currently under discussion.
